With this project, we aim to <strong>increase and improve the use of retrieval practice<\/strong> through <strong>flashcards<\/strong> (commonly known as <strong>flashcards<\/strong>) as a learning tool.<\/p><p class=\" translation-block\"><strong>Active Learning Association<\/strong> is proud to lead the <strong>FLASH-RET<\/strong> project, which also includes two European schools: <strong>Gheorghe Asachi Botosani Technical High School<\/strong> from Romania, and <strong>Lodz International Innovative Education Primary School<\/strong> from <strong>evidence-based teaching and learning strategies<\/strong> to classrooms across Europe.<\/p><h3>Our plan focuses on practicality and effectiveness:<\/h3><ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li><strong>Creation of a comprehensive guide<\/strong> with videos and guidelines for real-world application, based on the latest scientific evidence.<\/li><li><strong>Practical training for teachers.<\/strong> Our goal is for flashcards to become part of everyday classroom practice.<\/li><li class=\" translation-block\">Implementation of <strong>pilot activities<\/strong>.<\/li><li Teachers learned to use technologies such as <strong>Quizlet<\/strong> to create interactive flashcards that address various dimensions of knowledge, and to incorporate techniques like <strong>spaced and interleaved repetition<\/strong> to enhance student knowledge retention. The results of the pilot tests have been positive, and all teachers have observed an increase in student motivation and engagement. This handbook is a comprehensive theoretical and practical guide that gives teachers the most effective, evidence-based tools for integrating flashcards into the classroom to <strong>increase participation, knowledge retention and student learning.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The handbook covers a wide range of topics: an introduction to how <strong>memory<\/strong> works in learning, <strong>retrieval practice<\/strong> with flashcards, their <strong>benefits<\/strong>, how to create <strong>effective exercises<\/strong> with flashcards and their <strong>adaptation<\/strong> to different age groups and subjects, and more. After <strong>16 months of work, learning and collaboration<\/strong>, we are pleased to <strong>share the results<\/strong> of the FLASH-RET project. This initiative <strong>Erasmus+ <\/strong>brought together <strong>Active Learning Association<\/strong> (Spain), the <strong>Gheorghe Asachi Technical College<\/strong> (Romania) and the <strong>International School of Lodz<\/strong> (Poland) to explore and implement the effective use of flashcards as a retrieval practice strategy.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retrieval practice is an evidence-based learning strategy that involves actively recalling information. This approach improves knowledge retention, critical thinking and academic performance. With FLASH-RET, we set out to bring this strategy into classrooms across Europe.<\/span><\/p><h4><b>The FLASH-RET Journey<\/b><\/h4><p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project began with the development of a <\/span><b>comprehensive handbook<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that combines theory and practice. This resource includes step-by-step guides, inclusion strategies and concrete examples so that teachers can use flashcards effectively. Thanks to input from teachers and experts, the handbook responds to a wide range of educational needs. You can download it <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1ScaDWy_KaKDrKzVlVBha3bUWgUtJh03J?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HERE<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, we organised <\/span><b>teacher training sessions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Romania and Poland. These sessions gave teachers at these schools practical tools for bringing flashcards into their lessons. The teachers also took part in evaluating the first version of the handbook, making sure it matched the real needs of the classroom. You can find the training materials by following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1MXOsa7O1XxmmXznN4SxfSuO19dX4Txts?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">THIS LINK<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third phase focused on <\/span><b>pilot projects with teachers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in which teachers applied retrieval practice techniques using flashcards. This hands-on experience allowed us to refine the strategies based on feedback from teachers and students. We also produced two inspiring videos showcasing success stories in the use of these techniques. All the teachers and students involved in these experiences were delighted after discovering all the ways they could use <em>flashcards<\/em> to improve learning.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, over the last few months we have developed <\/span><b>high-quality materials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including editable templates and sets of <em>flashcards<\/em> ready to use. We were really looking forward to finally presenting these resources, which are designed for different ages, subjects and students with different needs, ensuring inclusiveness and versatility. Sharing knowledge and adapting strategies across different countries has not only enriched the project's resources and broadened its impact, but has also greatly enriched everyone who worked on it.
